SITUATION

In many areas of the German economy, there is a shortage of skilled labor. Among the refugees that now live in Germany, there is a lot of potential to close this gap among the workforce. However, this is not a potential just for today but for tomorrow and beyond.

The integration into the labor market can only succeed if the refugees meet requirements that go beyond knowledge of the German language.

These include, just to name a few, knowledge of occupational safety and quality standards, business etiquette and internal communication, time management and industry specific knowledge.

BOTTLENECK

Companies that offer jobs for refugees are particularly in need to plan and carry out pre-employment and training assistance measures. The development and implementation of effective measures are time-consuming and labor-intensive, and thus costly.

OVERVIEW OF THE MULTILEVEL PROGRAM

This module is designed to prepare refugees for an apprenticeship or vocational education. The contents can be implemented in courses by professional associations, organizations or in programs for interns. The module can be tailored to the needs of specific branches and companies, however, implementation in a more general context is also possible, so companies can use the module in cooperating on the integration of refugees in the labor market. We support vocational colleges and training companies by providing the refugees with the knowledge they need to reach the level of the Dutch MBO. This way, the refugees are a more homogenous learner group that is easier to integrate into the vocational education system.

This module is tailored to the training company, in order to allow for a much more cost-efficient approach to integrating refugees into the company: Companies need less personnel for the tutoring and taking charge of the refugees, as all course contents are presented in English as lingua franca. Furthermore, the platform is moderated by a mentor/tutor, so participants can ask questions via a chat tool or a forum. This way, all participants within the company benefit from the answer given by the mentor/tutor.
