About the photographer

Hi, I’m Robert.

My love for photography began when I was ten, with an old Kodak camera from my aunt. Today I photograph companies, professionals, couples and families across Malta, and many of them come back.

Most people tell me first that they don’t enjoy being in front of a camera. So a session with me feels more like a relaxed conversation than a photoshoot: simple guidance, a little humour, and time for the moments nobody planned, which are often the pictures people love most. Simply bring yourself; I’ll guide you through the rest.

✓Home studio in St Paul’s Bay, or at your office and on location ✓Portable lighting, so any room can become a studio ✓Relaxed, guided sessions with no posing experience needed
Wow! Absolutely amazing work. You were so patient and made the whole photoshoot such a delight. I truly love your work and the experience. Thank you so much!

Robert Vella recently carried out a series of photography jobs for our UPS installations at Constant Power Solutions, and the results were outstanding. Robert has a great eye for detail and captured our equipment, installations, and on‑site work with clarity and creativity. The photos were delivered promptly, edited to a high standard, and perfectly suited for our marketing materials. Highly recommended for anyone looking for professional industrial or technical photography.

We hired Robert for our company event, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial booking to the final gallery delivery, the entire process was seamless. Robert’s professionalism really stood out, he even scouted the venue days in advance to ensure he had the best angles and lighting prepared. During the event, he captured every key moment perfectly without ever being intrusive. The photo quality is outstanding. If you’re looking for a reliable, high-tier professional for corporate events, look no further!

Photography is more to me than my work.

Photography has always been personal to me. It is where I slow down, observe and photograph what catches my eye, whether that is a gesture in the street, changing light across a landscape, the structure of a city or a detail in nature.

My background is in observational street photography. I prefer to stand back, watch and see how people exist within their surroundings. It has taught me to anticipate, to recognise when something is developing and to notice the small moments others might simply walk past. That instinct also shapes how I photograph events, weddings and people.

I approach landscapes in much the same way.

I approach landscapes in much the same way. I am not looking simply for a beautiful view, but for something within it that gives the photograph an idea, a sense of atmosphere or a story. Many of these photographs were made while travelling with my wife, Kasia, which gives me the freedom to explore and to photograph simply because something caught my attention.

These photographs are less about where I have been than about the way I look at things. Sometimes the subject is a person, sometimes a landscape, the light or a fleeting moment. What connects them is patience, observation and curiosity. It is simply how I see.

FAQ

The things clients usually want to know.

Booking, delivery, prices and usage rights. These are the questions I am asked most.

A straightforward business portrait session usually takes around 20 minutes and is ideal when you need two or three finished images. If you would like several looks, outfit changes or photographs in different areas of your workplace, allow around one hour or more, as the lighting and equipment must be reset for each location.

Come dressed as you would like to present yourself professionally. You may also bring a second outfit for more variety, along with any hair or makeup items you normally use for quick touch-ups. Other than that, simply bring yourself. I will guide you through the poses and expressions.

The shoot can take place at my home studio, your office, your home or another agreed location. My professional lighting equipment is portable and battery-operated, so access to electricity is not normally required. For an on-location studio setup, we simply need sufficient space to position the background, lighting and equipment safely. Together, we can choose the setting that best reflects you, your profession and the image you want to create.

Use the enquiry form under Contact, send me an email or call me directly on +356 7975 8642. Once we discuss your requirements and confirm availability, I will guide you through the booking process.

Turnaround time depends on the type of session and the number of photographs. Portrait and business galleries of up to 30 finished images are normally delivered within one week. Larger assignments may require additional time, while parties and events are usually completed within two to three weeks. Wedding galleries generally take four to six weeks. Your expected delivery date will always be confirmed in advance.

I carefully select and edit the strongest photographs from your session or event. They are delivered through a private online gallery in two folders: high-resolution files for printing and web-optimised files for websites and social media.

A booking is confirmed with a 20% deposit. The balance is due before the final images are delivered digitally.

Yes. Final photographs may be used for the business and marketing purposes agreed before the assignment, including company websites, social media and promotional material. Copyright remains with Robert Vella Photography unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Please contact me as soon as possible. Rescheduling requests made at least 48 hours in advance will be considered subject to availability. If you do not turn up without letting me know, the deposit is not refunded. Cancellations made within seven days of the session may be charged in full, as set out in my Terms & Conditions.

The copyright stays with me. That is how it works for photographers under Maltese law. You receive the right to use your photographs: private clients for personal use, such as printing, sharing with family and friends and posting on your own social media; businesses for the uses we agree before the shoot, such as your website, social media and marketing. Selling the photographs, or passing them on for someone else’s commercial use, needs my written agreement.
